It's crazy that 7 schools won their first NCs between 1981-1996...
and none have since. What about that time period created so much more parity? Was it scholarship limits? Was it TV money and increased exposure? Did superconferences kill parity? Was it steroids? Was it the addition of the 12th game and conference championship games?
I do think that while the CFP has made access easier for everyone, it is also very unlikely than a non-traditional power will beat 2 top-five teams in a row and win it all.
